Dental Office Assistant

OurDental Office Assistant course delivers all the latest information and skillspractice you need to succeed in the paperless era: technology, forms, and equipment in use today as well as up-to-date coding information and HIPAA and OSHA guidelines. This course describesfunctions of the dental business office and how to properly communicate information to patients. An in-depth look intocompleting common tasks such as scheduling, bookkeeping, electronic record regulations, and insurance coding is also provided. Included with our course is the Dental Simulation tool which provides an interactive and realistic look into the dental office environment.

After completing this course, you should be able to:

  • Identify proper communication skills for handling requests
  • Define the role of the dental office assistant within the dental healthcare team
  • Recognize the requirements for managing dental office systems and records
  • List the steps for managing dental office finances including insurance processing, financial arrangements, and collection procedures
  • Recall the steps for bookkeeping procedures including accounts receivable and accounts payable

Electronic Health Records Specialist

The nation's health care delivery system is rapidly being transformed by the introduction of computer-based health information systems -specifically, by electronic health records (EHRs). This Electronic Health Records course answers the need for health care students to understand the entire medical office workflow process, from scheduling an appointment with the doctor to collecting the final payment. Also included in our course is the clinical staff’s use of a point-of-care electronic health record. Included in ourcourse is the detailed use of SimChart’sfully integrated electronic health record and practice management system. SimChart’ssimulationsallow students to practice each of the medical office workflows steps. Our Electronic Health Records course provides you with techniques and rationales for using electronic health records in practice and shows how the electronic health record affects your responsibilities on the job.

When you begin your career in the health care workplace, it is important that you have a clear understanding of EHR. The knowledge and experience gained through this course will be a vital component of the skillsand competencies needed in the 21st century medical workplace.

After completing this course, you should be able to:

  • Identify the developmental challenges associated with creating electronic health records
  • Define electronic health record and its advantagesand disadvantages
  • Recognize the importance of patient data privacy
  • List the steps for basic coding techniques
  • Name the steps for documenting in the EHR

Upon successful completion of our Electronic Health Record Specialist course, students will be prepared for an entry-level position as an Electronic Health Record Specialist in a medical office and to sit for the National Healthcareer Associations' (NHA) national certification exam to become a Certified Electronic Health Record Specialist (CEHRS).

+ Are these courses associated with an accredited school?
These courses are offered by Texas A&M University Texarkana, in partnership with Job Training Courses (JTC). Texas A&M University-Texarkana is a regionally accredited institution and is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC).

+ Are there available financial aids (FAFSA, Pell Grant, etc)?
We currently do not have support for federal or state grants. However, we offer zero interest payment plans for up to 12 months. Students can take advantage of these payment plans without worrying about credit check.
